Next year’s iPhone to come with 120Hz Refresh rate ProMotion OLED Panel

Since Apple launched its 120Hz ProMotion display on its iPad Pro 2017, it has been rumorous to make its way to the iPhones. While iPhones have been unable to deliver in the last two generations and stuck with 60Hz Refresh rate panels. The iPhone next year will feature a 120Hz screen like the ProMotion iPad Pros, according to Digitimes. And iPhone 2020 will be an OLED panel with a high refresh rate while the ProMotion iPad Pro 2017 has LCD.

Apple’s ProMotion software is an adaptive refresh rate solution which depending on the task at hand will vary between 60Hz and 120Hz. A 120Hz refresh rate display would result in the screen refreshing an image 120 times a second, resulting in a faster and smoother on-screen movement experience. At present, only a handful of smartphones, like the ROG II, Razer Phone 2, and the Sharp Aquos R3, have a 120Hz display. But if this report is to be believed, this figure will rise substantially by 2020. Such high refresh rates would benefit gaming-centric smartphones in particular, and this niche market has grown considerably this year.

Past reports about the next flagship iPhones outlined that we’re likely to see an iPhone 4 like a revised flat side model. Therefore, it is speculated that Apple will introduce a smaller size notch and add a 3D ToF lens to the back. There are also reports that next year Apple will release as many as five iPhones, including the SE 2 model.
