Xiaomi’s four edges smartphone confirmed!
Samsungs phones have curved edges to the left and the right of the screen since the Galaxy Edge was launched in 2014. The effect of having a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy Note 9 is that the internet seems to be right in your hands. The next Galaxy S10 should be on the same right and left curved edges. What about the upper and lower edges? On Tuesday, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi published a patent for four curved edges (top, body and sides) of a telephone screen. The patent has been published in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) global design database as reported by LetsGoDigital, the Netherlands website. The photo shows that the four-sided, curved shower is on the mock blue Xiaomi phone. I
t looks totally magnificent. It isn’t real, however. For the time being, at least. The illustration of the patent also raises several questions: where does the camera go? On the sides there are areno buttons, so how do you sleep and wake it up? How do you secure your phone, too? Maybe under the screen is there a fingerprint reader? Patents with a grain of salt obviously need to be taken. But I hope that one day a phone with this display is a reality. Until then I’ll be lost down the foldable telephone screens rabbit hole.
